Styles of Martial Arts at our School

Karate is a martial art of Japanese origin that translated literally means “Empty Hand”. Meaning that it takes the form of unarmed combat or self defence. Karate is mostly characterized by solid blocking and punching techniques.

Kickboxing has roots that date back 2000 years in Far East Asia, where Muay Thai was commonly practiced for self-defence. However it became more of a sport over the years, with Thai boxing quickly becoming a very popular fighting sport in Asia. Then with the more recent fighting tournaments in America during the 60s and 70’s, which combined the basic elements of Muay Thai, Karate, Taekwondo and Boxing, it was then that modern day kickboxing was formed.

Mixed Martial Arts has seen an explosion of popularity over the past decade. With the Ultimate Fighting Championship being shown along side major sports and people recognising that the world is changing and it makes sense that martial arts should also evolve. Our mixed martial arts course combines the striking elements from other styles such as Kickboxing, Karate and Taekwondo, whilst incorporating close quarter strikes and grappling skills.
